Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that his country will draft a potential new nuclear agreement that could be presented to the United States within days, after President Donald Trump set a 10-day deadline for a deal between the two countries.

Earlier, Trump warned of “really bad things” for Iran if a deal with Tehran is not reached within the next 10 days.

Araghchi made these comments during an interview that aired late on Friday, following the conclusion of the second round of nuclear talks in Geneva. The talks between the two sides were mediated by Oman.

He said, “We had very good talks a few days ago. And the two sides agreed on a set of principles or guiding principles for our negotiations and how a deal can potentially look. The next step in the talks is for Tehran to submit a draft proposal to the American side.”

"I believe that in the next two or three days, it will be ready,” he said, noting that another meeting might be needed to work through the text once it is exchanged.

The US President, who has set a 10-day deadline for Iran to reach a deal with Washington, warned that failure to comply could trigger unimaginable consequences.

The United States has dispatched two aircraft strike groups to the region amid escalating tensions, including the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R Ford, along with nuclear submarines, destroyers, frigates, and refuelling ships.

“President Trump and his team are interested in a quick deal,” Araghchi said, insisting there was “no ultimatum” for Iran to accept zero nuclear enrichment and that no force in the world can stop it by coercion.

“We are prepared for diplomacy, and we are prepared for negotiation as much as we are prepared for war,” he said.

Moscow has warned that the standoff is “potentially explosive” and urged a peaceful settlement.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the US of “playing with fire” and warned that strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites could cause a nuclear disaster.
