After Donald Trump’s “hellhole” remark about India triggered backlash from leadership both in India and in the United States, Iran also mocked US President Donald Trump. In a post on X, Iran’s Consulate General in Mumbai shared a video showing India’s rich blend of traditions and modernisation.

The post sarcastically suggested that Trump take a “one-way cultural detox” trip to India, adding, “Kabhi India aake dekho, phir bolna.”

The controversy erupted after Trump made comments reportedly influenced by radio host Michael Savage, who openly used racially charged and derogatory language while criticising US birthright citizenship laws.

Savage added that immigrants from China and India were misusing the American system, making offensive remarks that sparked widespread backlash on Thursday. India also responded strongly, calling the remarks “uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste.”

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said such statements do not reflect the strong and respectful relations between the two countries. Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen the comments… They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship.”

Amid the backlash, the US Embassy in New Delhi issued a clarification stating that Trump considers India a “great country” and shares a positive relationship with its leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, several Democratic lawmakers in the United States also condemned the comments as inappropriate and noted the strong and friendly ties between India and the US.
