United States President Donald Trump has said that his country is only semi-negotiating with Iran and will wait for economic pressure to mount.
Iranian negotiators believe they have more time to negotiate with the United States since they are in no hurry to finalise any pact at the moment.
His comments came after Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said there are no direct talks with the US but that “intermediaries are still trying to create the grounds for negotiation”.
He said, “Talks between Oman and Iran are in the final stages and may see a breakthrough very soon.
However, the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will continue until the US meets Iran’s six listed demands, including the lifting of the naval blockade.”
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has appointed Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council.
Meanwhile, Houthis have carried out fresh attacks on the Saudi Arabia-backed government in Sanaa, which left three people dead and seven others injured.
Besides, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “rejected the 15-member Gaza Board of Peace committee and said that Israel will only withdraw from the territory until Hamas disarms completely”.
Additionally, the geopolitical developments, especially the Mecca defence pact between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, have shaken the region in the past couple of days.
While many term it as a new Sunni axis against the Shia axis led by Iran to limit Iranian influence in the region, others view the development as anti-Israel and a check-and-balance measure.
