White House officials have said that the peace deal between Iran and the United States is 95 per cent complete; however, the nuclear issue remains the only major deadlock in the negotiations.
The issue remains a critical sticking point that must be addressed before a final agreement can be reached. US Vice President JD Vance also confirmed that both sides were on the verge of striking a deal, but current hostilities may delay the process longer than expected.
The two sides clashed once again in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked ships on Wednesday, triggering a strong retaliation by US naval forces stationed in the Gulf region. Many IRGC personnel were killed in the US action after American forces launched strikes on southern Iran.
Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, during a briefing in the White House briefing room a few hours ago, said there are red lines that the President will not cross.
He said Trump wants to ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and that uranium enrichment remains a massive issue for him. However, he added that talks could begin on other equally important issues.
JD Vance stated that the Iranians are negotiating in good faith and are moving closer to an agreement, but stopped short of saying a deal is definite.
