Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, has said that Tehran remains within its rights to react to Israeli airstrikes last month.

He said that while his country is in confrontations with Israel, Tehran is taking into account all the other developments in the region.

Araqchi, during his interaction with the reports at Lisbon, said Iran welcomed Tuesday’s ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and expected it to last longer.

The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah took effect yesterday under the peace deal agreement brokered by the United States and France.

When asked about whether the ceasefire could lead to an easing of tensions between his country and Israel, Araqchi said it depends on how the nature of the Israeli nation evolves and how the current administration behaves.

“Of course, we reserve the right to react to the recent Israeli aggression, but we do consider all developments in the region,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, said in an interview published on Sunday that Tehran was preparing to respond to Israel.

However, the plausibility of that response occurring anytime soon is quite less given the current circumstances in the Middle East.

Subsequently, after the ceasefire agreement, US President Joe Biden has announced to arm Israel with military hardware, including the ammunition and supplies worth 680 million dollars.

Rights activists remain concerned about Biden’s decision and suggest that the weapons transfer to Israel will be directly used in Gaza, which is in ruins after the Israeli invasion post-October 7 attack.
