Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Pakistan to boost trade ties, defence, and bilateral connectivity. Pezeshkian said Iran and Pakistan are planning to increase their bilateral trade volume to $10 billion annually.

During his interaction with the reporters, he said Tehran has always enjoyed good relations with its immediate neighbour, Pakistan. Hinting at joining China’s flagship Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) going through Pakistan, which extends to Europe through Iran, Pezeshkian said it would provide much-needed growth opportunity to Tehran.

The Iranian president, along with his delegation comprising key diplomats, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, was received by the Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar at the Nur Khan Airbase.

During his meeting with Shehbaz Sharif, Pezeshkian focused on strengthening bilateral relations and the regional security situation evolving in the region, especially in the context of Israeli aggression against Iran. The fears of another escalation between the two rivals are real, and apparently, anti-Iran propaganda has intensified across the West.

Pakistan, according to multiple OSINT sources, has provided key infrastructure and communication, along with intelligence support, to Iran before and during the operation True Promise III against Israel. This was also confirmed when the Iranian president lauded Pakistan for supporting the country during the recent 12-day war against Israel.

Pakistan, which does not recognise Israel, constantly calls Israeli aggression against Iran a violation of sovereignty and international law. Pakistan, during the recent UN conference, blasted Israel for carrying out illegal actions in the region by warning Tel Aviv to halt aggressive posturing against the regional nations. Additionally, Islamabad has expressed support in case another round of the escalatory cycle of violence breaks out in September between the two nations. The region is going through tough times, especially because of the Israeli actions in Gaza and its illegal strikes against Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.
