Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a fresh wave of strikes on Israel and US bases in the Gulf region on Sunday, a day after President Massoud Pezeshkian apologised to Middle Eastern states for prior attacks. Saudi forces confirmed intercepting a drone attack near Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter early this morning.
The Ministry of Defence stated on X that “no material damage or civilian injuries” were reported, adding that air defence systems had engaged and destroyed as many as 15 drones that entered Saudi airspace.
In neighbouring Kuwait, an attack targeted the Public Institution for Social Security, causing material damage to the main building. Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence confirmed it was responding to a wave of air attacks and urged residents to follow safety instructions.
“Competent authorities and firefighting teams are dealing with a fire at the site,” the ministry said in its latest update on X.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, strongly denounced the attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait as “dangerous acts of aggression” that threaten regional security and stability.
In a statement posted on the GCC website, he described the Iranian strikes as part of a “nefarious design” aimed at destabilising the region and exposing Tehran’s “escalatory approach” amid the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, the IRGC announced the 27th wave of retaliatory strikes against the United States and Israel under “Operation True Promise”, continuing its campaign of missile and drone attacks.
