Israel bombs Gaza school, kills 90 in 24 hours of strikes

Israel's fresh offensive in Gaza, in the past 24 hours, has killed over 90, including nine at a school, amid mounting global concern and growing civilian toll in aid distribution zones.

Israeli air and ground assaults on the Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of over 90 Palestinians in the past 24 hours, marking one of the deadliest days in the enclave since the ceasefire with Iran. The renewed bombardment comes amid reports of civilian casualties in densely populated areas, including the targeting of a school in Gaza’s Sheikh Ridwan neighbourhood.

At least nine people were killed in the school strike, with authorities warning the toll may rise as rescue operations continue under rubble-strewn streets. The strike follows weeks of attacks that have devastated civilian infrastructure and left families struggling for basic necessities.

In a separate incident on Thursday, illegal Israeli settlers attacked Kafr Malek village northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, killing three Palestinians and injuring dozens more. Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were awaiting humanitarian supplies when they were fired upon — a practice described by local organisations as turning aid distribution zones into “hunting grounds.”

Palestinian officials have accused Israeli forces of committing violations with impunity, pointing to attacks near distribution centres where desperate civilians queue for limited food and water. Despite widespread evidence of potential breaches of international humanitarian law, the global community has stopped short of imposing meaningful deterrents on Israel.

The Gaza Health Ministry reports that, since the beginning of the latest campaign, 56,156 people have been killed and 132,239 injured. The figure includes a significant number of women and children.

Though Israel was concurrently engaged in a conflict with Iran until recently, its military operations in Gaza have not abated. Rather, observers note, they appear to have intensified following the ceasefire with Tehran, fuelling fears of prolonged occupation and devastation.

As the enclave descends further into what aid groups describe as an “unliveable zone of siege and trauma”, international calls for restraint have grown louder, yet action remains elusive.
