Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that Israel used air-launched missiles in its latest strikes.

Powerful explosions were heard in Tehran, Isfahan and Tabriz after the Israeli military launched attacks on Iran on Sunday night, officials said. The bombing campaign comes a day after Iran fired a wave of missile strikes on northern Israel, accusing Israel of repeated violations of the ceasefire through its continued actions in Lebanon.

US President Donald Trump has urged restraint during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, telling him that he (Trump) "calls the shots" in the region.

The latest escalation follows an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which killed at least two people and wounded around 20 others.

According to Iranian sources, two explosions were heard in western Tehran at 04:43 and 04:45 local time. A spokesperson for the city’s fire department said urban areas were not targeted.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that Israel used air-launched missiles in its latest strikes.

President Trump is hoping to keep the lid on this fresh round of escalation and is said to be keen for it to remain limited, similar to the exchanges seen in April 2024.

However, his reported comments that he "calls the shots" have complicated matters for both sides.

During the conversation with Trump, Netanyahu is understood to have made clear that, while the US president would like to see certain outcomes, the political landscape in Israel is complex.

He must navigate different coalition partners, competing personalities and the need to retain the support of the Israeli public.

Both sides appear to believe a deal remains possible, with papers reportedly being exchanged through mediators.
