The Israeli Defence Ministry has confirmed the signing of a significant deal valued at $5.2 billion with Boeing, a US-based aerospace company, to purchase 25 advanced F-15 fighter jets.
This agreement, finalised on Wednesday, forms part of a broader military aid package that was approved earlier this year by both the US administration and Congress.
The F-15IA jets being acquired are customised with advanced weapon systems that are integrated with Israeli-made armaments. They also come with enhanced range and increased payload capacity.
These features will strengthen the Israeli Air Force’s ability to maintain its strategic dominance in the region, particularly in addressing both current and future challenges in the Middle East.
The delivery of these fighter jets is expected to begin in 2031, with Israel set to receive four to six aircraft per year. The deal also includes an option for an additional 25 jets, reflecting Israel’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its military capabilities.
Eyal Zamir, the director-general of the Israeli Defence Ministry, emphasised that this acquisition of F-15 jets, coupled with the earlier procurement of a third F-35 squadron, represents a historic boost to Israel’s air power and strategic reach. These enhancements are seen as crucial to Israel’s defence, especially in light of the ongoing conflict in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
Since the war began, Israel has secured nearly $40 billion worth of procurement deals, underscoring the urgency and priority of strengthening its military in these challenging times.
This F-15 deal is not just a significant investment in Israel's defence but also a reflection of the deepening defence ties between the US and Israel. The acquisition of these advanced fighter jets is expected to provide Israel with the capabilities necessary to confront regional security threats more effectively.
