Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon kill 16 aid workers

Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have killed at least 16 aid workers, including paramedics, while the ongoing conflict has claimed thousands of lives in Gaza and Lebanon. International efforts to broker peace remain stalled as Hezbollah and Hamas reject terms.

At least four paramedics were among six people killed in an Israeli strike on a civil defence centre in Lebanon’s southern Nabatieh area.

 

A second airstrike on a civil defence centre near Baalbek city killed 12 rescue workers, according to the Health Ministry.

 

In the latest 24-hour reporting period, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported the death of 24 Palestinians and 112 others injured.

 

Palestinian-American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has called for the resignation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, after his deadline for Israeli authorities to ramp up humanitarian aid to Gaza passed without any action or consequences for Israel.

 

Since the conflict began on October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 43,736 Palestinians and wounded 103,370.

 

In return, an estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during Hamas-led attacks, which also took more than 200 captives.

 

Meanwhile, in Lebanon, at least 3,386 people have been killed and approximately 14,417 wounded in Israeli airstrikes since the war on Gaza began.

 

International mediators are still working to negotiate a peace deal to halt Israel’s invasion of Gaza, but Hamas and Hezbollah have rejected several proposals, citing their pro-Israel nature.
