On Saturday, the Israeli army declared the completion of the dismantling of Hamas's command structure in the northern Gaza Strip, according to army spokesperson Daniel Hagari.
He stated that Palestinian members in the area are now operating sporadically and without commanders. The focus is now shifting to dismantling Hamas in the central and southern Gaza Strip, though the process is expected to take time.
The Israeli commitment to neutralize Gaza's Hamas rulers followed the deadliest attack in the country's history on October 7, resulting in approximately 1,140 deaths, mostly civilians, based on a tally from official figures. Israel responded with airstrikes and ground forces, causing casualties in the territory.
Hagari explained that the military efforts to dismantle Hamas in the central and southern Gaza Strip would employ a different approach, without providing further details. He acknowledged the challenges, noting the crowded refugee camps in the central Gaza Strip and the complex underground network of tunnels in Khan Yunis in the south.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on the same day, directed the army to "eliminate Hamas," secure the release of all hostages, and ensure that Gaza poses no future threat to Israel. Netanyahu emphasized that the war must continue until all goals are achieved.
