Israeli forces target aid seekers as Witkoff meets kin in Gaza

Gaza health ministry’s ambulance and emergency services, said another 19 people were shot dead as they crowded near the Zikim crossing from Israel in the hope of obtaining aid.

News Arena Network - Gaza - UPDATED: August 3, 2025, 10:39 AM - 2 min read

White House special envoy Steve Witkoff arrives to meet families of hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip, at the plaza known as the hostages square in Tel Aviv, Israel.

As many as ten more people have been killed by the Israeli forces in Gaza near the Humanitarian aid sites, bringing the toll to 31,859 since the controversial GHF began distributing aid on May 27.

Fares Awad, head of the Gaza health ministry’s ambulance and emergency services, said another 19 people were shot dead as they crowded near the Zikim crossing from Israel in the hope of obtaining aid. Video footage on Friday and Saturday showed aid seekers rushing towards an aid convoy to collect food for their desperate and hungry families.

Another round of violence comes a day after US officials visited a GHF site and the US ambassador called the controversial system “an incredible feat.” Israeli forces are acting with one hundred per cent impunity, knowing that the international community has been lethargic in its approach against Israel.

In the recent UN report released earlier this week, the data showed that the number of those dead in Gaza has risen beyond 60,400. The ratio suggests Israeli forces are killing at least 90-100 civilians on average daily. Experts this week said a “worst-case scenario of famine” was occurring. On Saturday, Gaza’s health ministry said seven Palestinians had died of malnutrition-related causes over the past 24 hours, including a child.

Aid is 'far from sufficient', Germany’s government said via spokesman Stefan Kornelius. US special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with the families of remaining captives on Saturday, a week after walking away from the ceasefire talks, blaming Hamas.

While it appears clear that neither Israel nor the US, as well as Hamas, are interested in a peace deal that would see an end to hostilities in Gaza. “I didn’t hear anything new from him. I heard that there was pressure from the Americans to end this operation, but we didn’t hear anything practical,” said Michel Illouz, father of Israeli hostage Guy Illouz.
