Israel faces $17.5B losses after 40 days of war with Iran and Hezbollah, with 1,000 homes destroyed in Tel Aviv and thousands filing damage claims.

The cost of the war that Israel is bearing after 40 days of conflict with Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah has left more than 1,000 homes in Tel Aviv completely destroyed, accounting for total losses of $17.5 billion, the city’s Mayor Ron Huldai has said, adding that over 1,000 homes are completely uninhabitable because of the damage caused by Iranian missiles, drones and Hezbollah rockets.

During the US-Israeli war on Iran, which began on February 28, Tehran’s constant bombardment caused widespread destruction in Israeli cities in response to massive strikes on Iranian territory. While Israeli authorities have not yet released official figures of the dead and injured in the recent war with Iran, reports suggest that debris from missiles intercepted over Israeli buildings in Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, and Bnei Brak has killed and injured dozens, causing extensive damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure.

Reports earlier this week, citing official sources, estimate that “the cost of 40 days of war with Iran and Lebanon stands at around $17.5 billion".

These figures do not include the cost of reconstruction from the partial shutdown of the Israeli economy during the fighting.

As per reports, nearly 30,000 Israelis have filed claims with the Israeli Tax Authority’s compensation fund for direct property damage, including 18,408 claims related to buildings, 2,594 to equipment, and 6,617 to vehicles.

Besides, Israeli finance authorities also said that during the 12-day war against Iran in June last year, the cost was around $753 million in compensation for businesses.

The ceasefire between Israel, the US, and Iran came into effect on April 8, while talks between the warring parties in the Pakistani capital failed to yield any decisive results to end the war.
