At least 31 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip in a day-long offensive, reported the health ministry in Gaza.

Nearly half of the deaths were in northern areas where the army has waged a month-long campaign, they said.

The Palestinians taking shelter in north and south Gaza have alleged that the renewed aerial and ground offensive aims to force evictions and “ethnically cleanse” the two northern towns and a refugee camp to create new buffer zones.

However, Israeli defence forces have rejected the claims, saying that they are fighting Hamas fighters who are launching attacks from there.

Medics working in Gaza said that at least 13 Palestinians were killed in separate attacks on houses in Beit Lahiya town and Jabalia, the largest of the enclave’s eight historic camps and the focus of the army’s new offensive.

The rest of the civilians were killed in the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City and in southern areas, including one in Khan Younis.

The health ministry considered credible by the United Nations said that among the eight people killed also consisted of four children.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza has already crossed 43000, with 1.7 million internally displaced refugees.

Similarly, in Lebanon, 500,000 people have fled to neighbouring Syria as the war between Israel and Hezbollah continues in south Lebanon.
