Jaffar Express attacked again near Sindh-Baloch border

This is not the first time the Jaffar Express has been targeted. In March, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the train between Pehro Kunri and Mushkaf in Balochistan. They blew up the tracks, derailed the coaches, opened fire, and took passengers hostage.

The Jaffar Express has been targeted several times over recent months, underscoring persistent security challenges in the region.

The Jaffar Express train was attacked on Tuesday near the Sindh–Balochistan border by Baloch insurgents. The train was heading to Quetta when the blast took place.

Reports said several coaches of the train derailed after an explosive device went off on the tracks. Rescue teams rushed to the spot. They confirmed multiple injuries, but the exact number of casualties is still not known. First responders are carrying out relief work. Medical teams are treating the injured while officials probe the attack.

The train had nearly 400 passengers on board. After hours of tense operations, security forces rescued 104 passengers. Sixteen Baloch militants were killed in the operation. The train service was suspended for some time after that attack and later resumed with added security.

Three months later, in June, another blast derailed six coaches near Jacobabad in Sindh. That time, there were no immediate casualties.

The Jaffar Express has also faced repeated suspensions and cancellations due to damaged tracks, bad weather, and security threats.
