Cyberattack halts Japan Airlines ticket sales and flights.

Japan Airlines, one of the country's leading carriers, has been affected by a cyberattack that disrupted its services and led to delays in both domestic and international flights.

The attack, which caused a malfunction in the airline's systems, also forced the suspension of ticket sales. The company quickly acknowledged the incident and apologised for the inconvenience caused to its passengers.

The disruption began early on Thursday morning, with Japan Airlines reporting a system malfunction at 7:24 am local time. The airline stated that the malfunction was impacting both its internal and external systems, which connect the company with its customers.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Japan Airlines apologised for the inconvenience and reassured passengers that it was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

As the day progressed, Japan Airlines identified the root cause of the issue, which was traced back to a faulty router in the network equipment. This led to the airline temporarily shutting down the router to prevent further system malfunction.

Following this, the company took additional steps to ensure that no further disruptions would occur. However, the airline also announced the suspension of ticket sales for both domestic and international flights departing that day, further complicating the situation for passengers.

Within half an hour of identifying the issue, Japan Airlines provided an update on its actions, stating that it was closely monitoring the recovery of its systems.

Despite the airline's efforts to address the situation promptly, passengers experienced delays, and many were left unable to purchase tickets for upcoming flights. The suspension of ticket sales continued throughout the day as the airline worked on restoring full functionality to its systems.

Japan Airlines, founded on August 1, 1951, has grown to become a prominent player in both domestic and international aviation. Initially a private company, it was nationalised in the early years of its operations, only to be fully privatised once again in 1987.

The airline's primary hubs are located at major airports, including Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports, as well as Osaka’s Kansai and Itami airports. Despite the current setback, Japan Airlines remains a significant force in the global airline industry, known for its high standards of service.

As Japan Airlines continues to recover from the cyberattack, passengers have been advised to check for updates on flight schedules and ticket availability.

The airline is expected to provide further announcements as its systems return to normal operations. In the meantime, Japan Airlines has reassured its customers that it is doing everything possible to minimise the disruption and restore services as quickly as possible.

The company also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the unexpected cyberattack and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during this challenging time.
