Kanimozhi warns Pak over terror in Moscow

DMK MP Kanimozhi, leading an all-party delegation to Russia, issued a stern warning to Pakistan on India's stance against terrorism, stating that the Indian government would "call a spade a spade" and make no distinction between terrorists and their sponsors in the event of another attack.

Kanimozhi: No more excuses on cross-border terror.

DMK MP Kanimozhi, leading an all-party delegation to Russia, issued a stern warning to Pakistan on India's stance against terrorism, stating that the Indian government would "call a spade a spade" and make no distinction between terrorists and their sponsors in the event of another attack.

Speaking during a media briefing in Moscow after holding talks with members of the Russian Parliament, Kanimozhi reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-standing position of zero tolerance for terrorism.

Her remarks followed the backdrop of Operation Sindoor — India’s recent counterterrorism operation — and the Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 people lost their lives.

"We have always taken the initiative to pursue peace, from Prime Minister Nehru to Prime Minister Modi. Unfortunately, while peace talks continue, we have repeatedly suffered from terrorist attacks on Indian soil. Every time, the trail leads back to Pakistan. It's time we stopped accepting excuses and called a spade a spade," she said.

Kanimozhi met with Leonid Slutsky, Chair of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, along with other lawmakers. The delegation also held discussions with First Deputy Chair of the Committee, Andrey Denisov.

The meetings were part of India's broader diplomatic outreach to strengthen its global stand against terrorism.

During the interactions, Kanimozhi criticised Pakistan for allegedly protecting the group responsible for the Pahalgam massacre, The Resistance Front (TRF), a known proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Despite TRF claiming responsibility for the killings, Pakistan reportedly blocked efforts at the United Nations Security Council to name the outfit in the official condemnation.

"The organisation that committed the crime was protected by Pakistan at the UNSC. They ensured the terrorist group was not mentioned by name, even as they continued spreading misinformation. It shook the conscience of the world," she said.

Kanimozhi further stated that India responded responsibly by targeting identified terror hubs. She emphasised that the Indian response avoided civilian casualties and conveyed a clear warning to both Pakistan’s military and government.

However, she alleged that Pakistan retaliated by striking civilian areas in India, including gurudwaras, temples, and residential zones.

“We ensured civilians were not harmed in our operations, but Pakistan did not exercise the same restraint. They targeted places of worship and populated areas,” she added.

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement after the meetings, reaffirming its solidarity with India and underlining its "decisive commitment" to a joint and uncompromising fight against all forms of terrorism.

The ministry also expressed readiness to enhance cooperation with India at various multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
