Arshdeep Singh Gill, commonly known as Arsh Dalla, is now facing fresh legal troubles in Canada. Already facing multiple charges in Ontario, including allegations involving firearm use, he is now dealing with a domestic violence case in British Columbia.
New Case in British Columbia
Court documents from British Columbia indicate that Arshdeep Singh Gill, also known as Arsh Dalla, is due to appear before the provincial court in Abbotsford on December 19. He faces charges related to assault and mischief.
According to someone familiar with the case, the case number includes a "K," which indicates that it involves intimate partner violence.
Gill's first appearance before the British Columbia court took place on February 23 of this year. He was born in 1996.
Legal Troubles in Ontario
On October 28, Arsh Dalla was arrested by Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) in Ontario. He was recently involved in a separate case in Surrey, British Columbia, facing assault charges, according to sources.
Currently, he is undergoing a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Milton.
Links to Khalistan and Previous Charges
Dalla is known for his connections to the pro-Khalistan movement, particularly his association with Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Surrey, British Columbia, in June of last year.
The Indian government has labeled Dalla a terrorist, though these allegations have not been formally examined by a Canadian court.
In the past few years, India has repeatedly sought his extradition, citing his involvement in various illegal activities. However, Canadian authorities have yet to act on these requests.
Shooting Incident and Firearm Charges
Gill was among two men arrested by the HRPS on October 28 following a shooting incident. According to the HRPS, they were contacted by Guelph Police in the early hours of October 28 after two individuals arrived at a hospital.
One had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while the other was unharmed. Both men, including Gill, are now facing charges of "Discharging a Firearm with Intent."
Although the names were not initially released, the court documents later confirmed one of those arrested was Arshdeep Singh Gill, who is also tied to various criminal cases under investigation by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Extradition Efforts Amid Tensions
In January of last year, India designated Arsh Dalla a terrorist due to his alleged involvement in targeted killings, terror financing, and extortion in Punjab. The NIA raised concerns about him with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 2022.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs recently reiterated their request for Dalla’s extradition, highlighting his criminal record and ongoing illegal activities in Canada.
They hope that recent developments might prompt Canadian authorities to take action, though the allegations concerning his leadership in the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) remain unproven in a Canadian court.
The unfolding case against Arsh Dalla continues to strain Canada-India ties, with both nations closely watching the proceedings.
