As India and Canada work to restore diplomatic relations, Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a US-based Khalistani group, has threatened to "siege" the Indian Consulate in Vancouver. The pro-Khalistan organisation announced plans to take over the consulate on Thursday and urged Indo-Canadians planning routine visits to choose another date.
The group also released a poster depicting the new Indian High Commissioner, Dinish Patnaik, with a target on his face. In a statement, SFJ accused Indian consulates of operating a spy network and conducting surveillance targeting Khalistanis.
"Two years ago -- 18 September 2023 -- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Parliament that the Indian agents' role was under investigation in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar," the statement said.
"Two years on, Indian consulates continue to run a spy network and surveillance targeting Khalistan Referendum campaigners," it added.

SFJ claimed that the threat to them "was so grave" that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to offer "witness protection" to Inderjeet Singh Gosal, who took over leadership of the Khalistan Referendum campaign following Nijjar’s death.
The group stated that through the "siege", it would demand "accountability" for alleged "espionage and intimidation on Canadian soil". At the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from India’s Ministry of External Affairs or the Indian Consulate in Vancouver.
Earlier this month, the Canadian government, in an internal report, acknowledged the presence of Khalistani terror groups on its soil.
