Laos is set to host the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) from October 17 to October 23. This significant event will focus on the theme “The Role of Parliaments in Enhancing Connectivity and Inclusive Growth of ASEAN.”
During this assembly, there will be 12 major meetings addressing various political, economic, and social issues. This includes sessions conducted by the AIPA Executive Committee, as well as committees dedicated to political, economic, and social matters. Moreover, there will be special meetings focusing on women parliamentarians and young parliamentarians within AIPA.
A key objective of the assembly is to discuss and adopt 38 resolutions aimed at improving regional connectivity, promoting inclusive growth, and addressing developmental disparities among ASEAN nations.
The assembly will also emphasise the importance of collaboration between ASEAN and other regions. Anticipating a large turnout, over 500 representatives are expected to attend from AIPA member countries, observer nations, and development partners. Additionally, officials from Laos, as well as the ASEAN and AIPA secretaries-general, will also participate in this crucial event.
The assembly underscores ASEAN’s commitment to fostering collaboration among its members and enhancing growth opportunities within the region. It aims to address the pressing needs of the member nations and seek solutions to improve connectivity and promote inclusive development across various sectors.
