A massive fire broke out at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Pakistan, on Saturday, resulting in the cancellation of all flights. According to sources, the blaze started when the tyre of a Pakistan Army aircraft caught fire during landing.
Fire engines were promptly deployed to the scene to contain the flames. Following the incident, authorities temporarily closed the runway to ensure safety.
A video of the fire has since gone viral on various social media platforms. In the footage, passengers at the airport can be seen struggling amidst thick smoke.
The 32-second video shows concerned travellers discussing the situation while dense black smoke rises into the air. However, no casualties or significant damage have been reported so far.
This is not the first time a fire has been reported at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport. In previous incidents, concerns have been raised about Pakistan’s ageing infrastructure and lax security measures.
Notably, on 9 May last year, a short circuit in the ceiling of the immigration counter triggered a fire, leading to widespread disruption of immigration services at the airport.
