Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently met with military leaders in Kharkiv, where he described the current military situation in the northeastern region as "extremely difficult." Despite the challenges, he assured that the situation was still "under control."

Zelensky's statement followed his discussions with military chiefs near the front line. He conveyed on his official Telegram channel that although the situation in the Kharkiv region was generally under control, it remained incredibly challenging.

However, he highlighted the resilience of Ukrainian soldiers who continue to inflict significant losses on the occupiers while reinforcing their units.

Earlier reports from the Ukrainian military indicated that they had managed to halt Russia's advances in certain areas. Army spokesman Nazar Voloshin mentioned on state TV that the defence forces had partially stabilised the situation, effectively stopping the enemy's progress in some zones and localities.

In their daily briefing, Ukraine's General Staff reported a significant reduction in the activity of Russian occupiers. Despite this, Voloshin cautioned that the enemy persisted in attempting to create conditions for further advances.

Kyiv also accused the Russian army of causing civilian casualties in the territories they recently seized. Interior Minister Igor Klymenko stated on Telegram that Russian forces prevented local residents from evacuating and even abducted some individuals, forcing them into basements.

He further noted disturbing reports of civilians being shot by Russian military personnel, prompting the opening of a war crimes investigation.

One tragic incident involved a resident of Vovchans’k who attempted to flee on foot but was fatally shot by Russian forces when he refused to comply with their commands.

These developments underscore the gravity of the situation in Ukraine and the urgent need for international attention and intervention to safeguard civilian lives and uphold peace in the region.
