Millions gather as week-long funeral for Ali Khamenei begins

According to state-owned media reports, the final farewell ceremony for the late leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has commenced at the Tehran Mosalla and its surrounding streets.

Millions gather in Tehran for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's funeral as leaders and delegations from over 100 countries attend the state ceremony.


More than 10 million people, including representatives from over 100 countries, are expected to attend the funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed along with family members at the beginning of the US-Israel war on Iran.

According to state-owned media reports, the final farewell ceremony for the late leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has commenced at the Tehran Mosalla and its surrounding streets.
 
Reports said that the doors to the major prayer complex have opened to accommodate millions of mourners gathering in the capital to pay their final respects. Thousands of mourners have entered Tehran’s Grand Mosalla complex for the funeral ceremonies of Iran’s late supreme leader ahead of the official start of ceremonies this morning.

Among the leaders attending the funeral are the president and parliament speaker of Iraq; Pakistan’s prime minister, Senate chairman, and army chief; Afghanistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister; followed by the Armenian prime minister, the vice president of Türkiye, Saudi Arabia’s deputy foreign minister, Qatar’s Shura Council speaker, Oman’s State Council chairman, Yemen’s vice president, and the Egyptian Senate speaker.
 
From the international community, the Russian Security Council deputy chairman (serving as special envoy) to Putin is in Tehran, along with the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (leading a national delegation) from China.

From Belarus: the House of Representatives speaker, the Georgian president, Serbian information and telecommunications minister, Turkmenistan’s national leader, Uzbekistan’s parliament speaker, Kazakhstan’s foreign minister, Kyrgyzstan’s parliament speaker, India’s state governor (leading a national delegation) and a former state chief minister, Bangladesh’s parliament speaker, Malaysia’s special envoy, Myanmar’s special envoy, Thailand’s Thai Shia Muslim groups, Burkina Faso’s foreign minister, the Republic of the Congo’s foreign minister, Namibia’s presidential affairs minister, and Nicaragua’s foreign minister.

Besides the heads of state and government officials, representatives from international organisations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Developing-8 (D-8), along with political and armed groups from Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Yemeni factions, Lebanese political groups, Palestinian religious scholar associations, and Bulgarian political delegations, are also in Tehran to attend the grand funeral procession likely to take place today.
