Several police officers were shot in the town of Gretna, southern Virginia, on Wednesday, said US Congressman John McGuire, who confirmed that many law enforcement officers have been wounded too.
Reports suggest that at least three deputies sustained gunshot injuries while they were serving warrants at a home.
The shooting incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, with rescue personnel, paramedics and other law enforcement agencies rushing to the scene. Video footage showed emergency service vehicles speeding to the location.
In his post on X, McGuire wrote, “My thoughts and prayers are with the deputies who were shot in Pittsylvania County, as well as their families. We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time.”
