According to reports from the US media, Elon Musk, billionaire entrepreneur and key backer of President Donald Trump, is set to be granted access to the Pentagon’s top-secret plans for a potential 'war with China'.
The decision marks a significant expansion of Musk’s 'influence' within the Trump administration.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief is scheduled to visit the Department of Defence on Friday.
Citing sources, the NYT report described the access as ‘unusual’, stating that it signifies Musk’s growing role as an adviser to President Trump.
It also aligns with his leadership in cutting government expenditure and removing policies and personnel that the administration deems unfavourable.
Pentagon briefing on China
The classified briefing reportedly comprises 20 to 30 slides, detailing strategic options the United States could employ in a conflict with China. It includes ‘various options on what Chinese targets to hit, over what time period’.
The presentation will ultimately be reviewed by President Trump, the report stated.
Neither the White House nor Musk has confirmed the visit.

However, Sean Parnell, the chief spokesman for the Defence Department stated, “The Defence Department is excited to welcome Elon Musk to the Pentagon on Friday. He was invited by Secretary Hegseth and is just visiting.”
Musk, 53, has already drawn criticism for his extensive role within the Trump administration.
As the head of Tesla and SpaceX, he has been instrumental in the government’s cost-reduction initiatives since Trump’s return to office in January.
His increasing influence in national security affairs has raised concerns about his involvement in key defence strategies.
‘They want to kill me’: Musk on backlash
In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Musk addressed the backlash he has faced, particularly regarding his initiatives within the administration.
"It turns out when you take away people's, you know, the money that they're receiving fraudulently, they get very upset,” Musk said.
He further alleged that ‘they basically want to kill me’ for his efforts against corruption.
“And they basically want to kill me because I'm stopping their fraud and they want to hurt Tesla because we're stopping the terrible waste and corruption in the government. And, well, I guess they're bad people. Bad people do bad things,” he added.
