North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un has officially honoured the country's fallen soldiers from the Russia-Ukraine war, officials said on Tuesday.
North Korea is a major backer of Russia in its war against Ukraine, which is supported by the Western allies, including the NATO members. Kim has supplied artillery shells, missiles, drones and some 6000 Army regulars, including the Special Forces units, supporting Russian forces in Kursk, Odessa, and the Sumy region, where intense fighting is unfolding.
The Russian president had recently announced a fresh assault on the Ukrainian frontlines on entire battle lines, especially with a focus on two main strategic points, the northeastern Sumy region, which Russia aims to use as a bargaining chip in future negotiations. The second assault was ordered on Odessa, where a key port is under the Russian scanner, which they aim to use for their transportation purpose. Meanwhile, Russia has already captured a critical mining-rich Lugansk with immense lithium resources.

Coming back to North Korea's interest in the war, the Russian president, during his state visit to Pyongyang, offered tech support in developing military and defence hardware for North Korea in response to its ongoing help to Russia against Ukraine. So far, some 600 North Korean soldiers have been killed in the war, with some thousand more injured, according to international media reports, though the figures have been contested by Moscow and Pyongyang alike.
The images broadcast by the state-run North Korea's media outlets show emotional Kim mourning the losses of soldiers who had fallen during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. A separate footage also showed North Korean soldiers on the battlefield, with the captions that said, "Oh, our heroes, shining stars of my homeland," and "those who gave their lives without hesitation to defend honour shine like radiant stars."
Meanwhile, according to the latest estimates by geopolitical experts, Russia is heading towards a clear victory in the war, though the advances are slow but calculated as Russian soldiers inflict heavy damage on the Ukrainian frontlines, which is evident as Moscow gains more territory. Additionally, some OSINT, along with Anti-war experts, suggest that the war in Ukraine is heading in a complex direction since the West adopts double standards, as they talk peace on one side while keeping sending weapons to Ukraine to sustain and earn profits to keep their military-industrial complex running.
