The sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, have initiated legal proceedings to surrender before the accountability court on March 12 in connection with three corruption cases linked to the Panama Papers.

Media reports indicate that the two sons have approached the accountability court, represented by their lawyer Qazi Misbahul Hassan, seeking the suspension of their perpetual arrest warrants in the Avenfield Apartments, Al-Azizia, and Flagship Investment cases.

The appeal was filed before accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana, wherein the lawyer informed the court that Hussain and Hassan Nawaz, currently residing in Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom, respectively, were named as accused individuals alongside their father Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz, and retired Captain Safdar in these cases.

Advocate Qazi Misbah highlighted that the trial proceedings commenced in their absence, as they were residing outside Pakistan at the time.

He emphasised that the due legal process, including the issuance of notifications, arrest warrants, and proclamations, was not followed by the state authorities.

The lawyer further stated that Hussain and Hassan Nawaz have willingly decided to submit themselves to the court's jurisdiction to face trial proceedings.

They are expected to arrive in Islamabad on March 12 and have requested the suspension of their arrest warrants to facilitate their formal surrender before the court.

This development comes in the wake of Nawaz Sharif's recent return to Pakistan and subsequent legal proceedings regarding his convictions in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases.

Sharif's conviction was overturned by the Islamabad High Court upon his return, prompting the reactivation of appeals against his convictions.
