Nepalese mountaineer Mingma G Sherpa made history on Friday by becoming the first Nepali climber to summit all 14 of the world’s peaks above 8,000 metres without the use of supplemental oxygen.
At 4:06 pm today, Mingma G reached the top of Shishapangma, the last of his 14 summits, marking a monumental achievement in the mountaineering world.
The 38-year-old from Dolakha, Eastern Nepal, led an 11-member team from Imagine Nepal Treks to the summit via the Spanish route, famously taken by Edurne Pasaban in 2006, confirmed Dawa Sherpa, Director of Imagine Nepal Treks.
Mingma’s oxygen-free ascent of Shishapangma completes a decade-long journey during which he also summited Everest, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, and Gasherbrum-II among other formidable peaks without the aid of bottled oxygen.
“Mingma’s achievement is monumental for Nepali mountaineering. It demonstrates both resilience and technical prowess,” Dawa Sherpa remarked.
Mingma’s mountaineering career began in 2007, and he is also the managing director of Imagine Nepal Treks. Over the years, his summits include multiple ascents of Everest, K2, Annapurna, and Manaslu, further establishing his legacy as one of the most skilled and dedicated climbers in the world.
As the first Nepali climber to complete all 14 peaks without oxygen, Mingma G Sherpa’s achievement sets a new standard in high-altitude mountaineering.
