Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store has announced that Norway will cooperate with Qatar on peace talks and reconciliation efforts in the Middle East. This statement came after a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is currently touring the Nordic region.
During their discussions, Store highlighted Qatar’s increasing role in peace and reconciliation initiatives. He praised the strong partnership between Norway and Qatar in this critical area, noting their joint commitment to resolving conflicts in the region.
Store reaffirmed Norway’s support for ongoing efforts to establish a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, sharing Qatar’s deep concerns over the region’s instability.
Store also emphasised the broad scope of collaboration between the two countries, including their work in peace diplomacy, energy, green transition, and business.
He specifically appreciated the productive exchange of views with Sheikh Tamim on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza. Store expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to discuss not only the situation in Gaza but also the fragile conditions in the Middle East, as well as issues related to Afghanistan and Ukraine.
On his X account, Prime Minister Store posted about his meeting with Sheikh Tamim, stating, “Honoured to host HH the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Appreciate good exchange on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the fragile situation in the Middle East, and Afghanistan and Ukraine. Qatar is a valued partner on peace and reconciliation.”
