Indian MEA Confirms Safe Return Of 4500 Students From Bangladesh.

In the latest update regarding the situation in Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that over 4,500 Indian students have safely returned to India amid ongoing protests in the country.

The High Commission of India in Dhaka, along with Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna, has been working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of Indian nationals.

The High Commission has been coordinating security escorts for the safe travel of Indian citizens to border-crossing points. Over the past two days, these efforts have facilitated the return of Indian nationals following recent developments in Bangladesh. The MEA has been in constant communication with relevant Indian authorities to ensure smooth passage at land-ports and airports.

In addition to the 4,500 Indian students who have returned, the High Commission has also assisted 500 students from Nepal, 38 from Bhutan, and one from the Maldives in safely reaching India. The Indian High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are maintaining regular contact with local authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals still in Bangladesh.

They are also in continuous touch with remaining students in various universities across Bangladesh, as well as with other Indian nationals, providing them with necessary welfare and assistance. Emergency contact numbers have been made available for any Indian national requiring help.

The High Commission in Dhaka is also coordinating with Bangladesh's civil aviation authorities and commercial airlines to ensure the availability of flight services between India and Bangladesh. This coordination aims to facilitate the swift and safe return of any remaining Indian nationals.

The ongoing protests in Bangladesh have been driven by demands for reform in the country's quota system for civil service jobs. This system reserves positions for specific groups, including descendants of those who participated in the 1971 War of Independence against Pakistan. The protests have led to significant unrest and have prompted the Indian government to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of its citizens.

On Friday, the MEA issued an advisory to Indian nationals in Bangladesh, urging them to follow the guidelines provided by the High Commission of India in Dhaka. The advisory emphasised avoiding local travel amid the violent protests.

The MEA also assured that the High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are available on helpline numbers for any assistance required by Indian nationals. They advised minimising movement outside living premises to ensure safety.

The efforts of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh highlight the commitment of the Indian government to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.

The coordinated efforts between the MEA, local authorities, and civil aviation officials have been crucial in ensuring the safe return of Indian students and nationals from the violence-hit regions of Bangladesh.

The ongoing situation in Bangladesh remains tense, and the Indian government continues to monitor developments closely. The swift response and continued assistance provided by the MEA and the High Commission reflect the proactive measures taken to protect Indian citizens during times of crisis.

The return of over 4,500 students marks a significant achievement in these efforts, providing reassurance to the families and friends of those who have been affected by the unrest in Bangladesh.
