Pakistan said over 100 terrorists were killed in Operation Shaban targeting BLA and TTP militants across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan Army said that it has killed more than 100 terrorists in one of the largest anti-terror operations launched in the northern parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The operation, code-named “Shaban”, was launched to flush out the remaining assets and terrorist entities, particularly the Baloch Liberation Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, from the mountainous regions in a coordinated operation, officials said.

The military, paramilitary rangers, and the FC corps, along with specialised teams from the Special Services Group (SSG), are taking part in the operation, they said. The administration has deployed attack helicopters, along with transport carriers, to ferry troops to mountainous regions posing terrain-related issues.

It is pertinent to mention that the United States very recently announced the lifting of sanctions on the export of top-of-the-line US-made gunship helicopters, allowing the Pakistani government to carry out operations in the region to track and hunt BLA and TTP cadres operating in the far-flung areas.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said 21 terrorists were killed in the past 24 hours. “The total number of terrorists killed since July 5 in Operation Shaban has reached 102,” he said. The deadliest attack on July 5 targeted a police checkpoint at Mangi Dam in Ziarat district, where militants killed nine policemen before abducting 18 others.

Officials later recovered their bodies from the Zarghoon Gar mountainous area near Ziarat. Families of the slain cops have continued demanding that the government take concrete actions against the terrorist infrastructure and ensure better security for law enforcement personnel.

The Pakistan army chief and Chief of Defence Staff, General Asim Munir, ordered the largest-ever anti-terror operation and vowed to avenge the blood of the policemen killed in the July 5 terror attack.
