A senior Pakistani diplomat faced an embarrassing situation after being denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to local media reports.
KK Wagan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkmenistan, was stopped by U.S. immigration authorities upon his arrival in Los Angeles and was subsequently deported.
Citing an unnamed official from Pakistan’s foreign ministry, The News reported that Wagan was barred from entry due to an "immigration objection." However, specific details regarding the nature of the objection remain unclear.
The diplomat, who was traveling on a personal visit, possessed all necessary travel documents, including a valid U.S. visa. Despite this, officials flagged what diplomatic sources described as “controversial visa references” in his documentation.
Following his deportation, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other senior officials were briefed on the incident. Wagan is expected to be summoned to Islamabad for an explanation.
Pakistan’s foreign office confirmed that the diplomat was on a private visit and stated that the matter is under investigation, according to Geo News.
The incident comes amid concerns that former U.S. President Donald Trump, if re-elected, could impose travel restrictions on Pakistan, potentially limiting the entry of Pakistani nationals into the United States.
