Unidentified Gunmen on Thursday, targeted a police mobile van in Kulachi, Dera Ismail Khan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan, simultaneously when the polling for general elections started this morning in the Islamic country. Tragically, 4 police Persons have lost their lives, and 6 others sustained injuries.
The assailants deployed an improvised explosive device before launching a relentless gunfire that lasted over 30 minutes. According to police, the vehicle was stationed in the jurisdiction of Kalachi police station in Dera Ismail Khan. The policemen were deployed for the security of Graha Aslam polling station, the Express Tribune newspaper reported.
The attack took place a day after at least 30 people were killed in twin terror attacks in the restive Balochistan province.
Indiscriminate shooting was reported in the area after the bomb attack, the paper said.
The bodies of the victims of the attack and the injured were shifted to the hospital.
Security forces have cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
No group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack but the area is a former stronghold of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The group carried out multiple attacks targeting security forces in recent years.
Meanwhile, the voting started at 8.00 AM in Pakistan and will continue without any break till 5.00 PM. A countrywide public holiday has also been declared to enable a total of 128,585,760 registered voters to cast their votes.
