Pakistan is pushing to mediate the second round of peace talks between the United States and Iran after both sides hinted at meeting again despite the deadlock in the last round of Islamabad talks. A White House spokesperson expressed optimism for continued negotiations between the US and Iran, saying the next round of talks is likely to be held in Pakistan.
While the spokesperson did not mention why Islamabad would be preferred over Cairo and Ankara, experts have cited security reasons for the same. Analysts have said that due to the risky nature and Israel’s constant sabotage attempts in talks between Israel and Hamas in Qatar and Egypt, Islamabad becomes an ideal choice for both the US and Iran. Besides, the Pakistani side maintains good relations with the Trump administration as well as with Tehran.
The latest domestic political developments taking place in the United States might shape US foreign policy and presidential power forever with a Senate resolution.
Also, Israel has continued its attacks on Lebanon, killing four Lebanese paramedics and injuring six others who were taking part in an emergency mission in the town of Mayfadoun, near Nabatieh, in the south of the country.
