United States President Donald Trump has said that the deal with Iran is not fully negotiated and that uncertainty continues amid major differences between the two sides. According to the White House, the president's cautious tone about the ongoing peace negotiations suggests it could take days, weeks, or even months to finalise a deal with the Iranian side.
Trump said he instructed his envoys “not to rush into a deal” with Iran, adding that an agreement is not “fully negotiated yet” but that “time is on our side”.
But his claims that Iran was weak and could be overthrown in days were a major miscalculation.
President Trump is facing mounting domestic pressure, including growing public frustration over soaring fuel prices in the US – a sign that consumer sentiment could influence the terms of any final deal.
“And because of that, we are suffering in this region,” experts from South Asia and West Asia said, with some suggesting that Trump’s policies have pushed the whole world into facing the most severe energy crisis in years.
Trump is also facing intense pressure from Republicans in Congress, as lawmakers are becoming increasingly impatient. Consumers in the US mainland say that this war was clearly not worth fighting.
Some recent surveys conducted by prominent media outlets revealed that the majority of Americans were against the war with Iran, and as a result, Trump’s domestic approval rating has fallen to an all-time low.
With midterms approaching, phone calls are flooding into members of Congress, people are angry, and the president is facing real pushback for the first time in his second term from his own party.
