Iranian President vows to protect nuclear program.

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran will oppose any nuclear talks that introduce new issues. He said his country was not going to engage in negotiations with Western nations unless and until sanctions are lifted or other steps are taken to dial down the escalations.

His comments followed a move by the United Nations on Sunday to reimpose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear Program.

The UK, France and Germany have accused Iran of violating a 2015 (JCPOA) nuclear deal. Western countries continue to seek diplomatic solutions.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has called on Iran to resume direct nuclear talks with the United States. On Sunday, the Iranian President referred to future talks with Western nations during a cabinet meeting.

Though he said Iran was likely to negotiate with EU nations from a position of strength. Pezeshkian said, "Remains ready for logical discussions based on clear criteria," but added that it will "firmly oppose any negotiations that would lead to new issues."

There is growing concern among Iranian people that sanctions may cause the country’s already sluggish economy to further deteriorate.

However, the Iranian government has said that sanctions on Iran were “nothing new” and that the country had a history of navigating and surviving under the sanctions for decades.

Pezeshkian added that “Iran was not going to give up its nuclear enrichment program as it is a matter of self-respect and dignity.” In response, Pezeshkian has indicated his administration intends to take necessary steps to support people’s living.
