Prime Minister Narender Modi dedicated his 31st global honour to the 140 crore people of India as Sweden conferred its highest diplomatic honour for a Head of Government—the Royal Order of the Polar Star (Commander Grand Cross) upon him during his visit to the country on Sunday.
Crown Princess Victoria presented the award in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Royal Order of the Polar Star is Sweden's top distinction for foreign Heads of Government, instituted in 1748. PM Modi stated, "This is not just my honour…..it is the honour of 140 crore Indians".The visit marked a milestone in international diplomacy, as India and Sweden agreed to elevate their relationship to a Strategic Partnership focused on green transitions, defense, and emerging technologies.
The leaders also exchanged special gifts in the presence of Crown Princess Victoria to mark the centenary of Rabindranath Tagore’s historic visit to Sweden.With this recognition, PM Modi has now received a total of 31 international honours from foreign governments and institutions, reflecting India’s growing global influence and his expanding diplomatic outreach on the world stage.Observers view the award as a symbol of the deepening India-Sweden relationship and a sign of expanding cooperation between the two nations across economic, technological and diplomatic sectors.
