Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Croatia on Wednesday, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour. Touching down in the capital city of Zagreb after concluding a visit to Canada, PM Modi was welcomed with a ceremonial reception—signifying a historic moment as this is the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia.
His visit aims to enhance bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation between India and Croatia across sectors of mutual interest. During his stay, PM Modi is scheduled to hold talks with his Croatian counterpart, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, and meet the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanović. The trip also reflects India’s broader commitment to deepening its engagement with the European Union.
Before arriving in Croatia, PM Modi attended the G7 Summit in Canada, where he participated in the Outreach Session held in Kananaskis. At the summit, he delivered an address during a session on “Energy Security: diversification, technology and infrastructure to ensure access and affordability in a changing world.”
Describing the Canadian leg of his tour as “productive,” the Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards the Canadian government and people for their warm hospitality. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Concluding a productive Canada visit. Thankful to the Canadian people and Government for hosting a successful G7 Summit, which witnessed fruitful discussions on diverse global issues. We remain committed to furthering global peace, prosperity and sustainability.”
In his summit address, PM Modi underscored that energy security is among the most pressing concerns for future generations. He outlined India’s approach—rooted in availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability—as a framework for sustainable energy development. Stressing India's environmental leadership, he noted that India has fulfilled its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule and continues to champion green initiatives globally.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s role in launching several key international efforts, including the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), and the One Sun-One World-One Grid initiative. He called on the global community to bolster these efforts for a more sustainable future. PM Modi’s visit to Croatia, following significant diplomatic engagements in Russia and Canada, is expected to further cement India's role on the global stage and enhance cooperation with key partners in Europe.
