Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States from September 21-23, during which he will attend two major international events: the fourth Quad Leaders' Summit and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This visit holds significant diplomatic importance, marking another step in strengthening India's position on the global stage.
The Quad Leaders' Summit, scheduled for September 21, will be hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware. Alongside Modi, Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will also attend.
This meeting will be particularly notable as it will serve as a farewell gathering for both Biden and Kishida, given that Biden is not running for a second term and Kishida is set to step down.
The summit will focus on reviewing the progress made by the Quad, which is a strategic alliance between India, the U.S., Australia, and Japan. Over the past year, the Quad has worked toward addressing the developmental needs of the Indo-Pacific region, and this meeting will set the agenda for the future.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that India will host the next Quad Summit in 2025, showcasing its growing leadership role within this group.
Prime Minister Modi will also attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he will address the 'Summit of the Future' on September 23. The theme for this year’s summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.’
This high-level gathering will bring together leaders from across the globe to discuss pressing global challenges and solutions that can help shape a better future. Modi’s speech is expected to emphasise India’s stance on multilateralism, global cooperation, and sustainable development.
The summit aims to accelerate global efforts to meet international commitments and find solutions to emerging global issues. A key outcome of the summit is expected to be the adoption of the ‘Pact of the Future,’ which will include a Global Digital Compact focusing on both the risks and opportunities posed by technology in the modern world.
During his time in New York, Modi will hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders to discuss issues of mutual interest. This offers India a valuable opportunity to further its diplomatic relations and strengthen its ties with various countries.
Modi will also address the Indian diaspora on September 22 in Uniondale, New York, where over 25,000 people have applied to attend. The event, titled 'Modi and US, Progress Together,' highlights the strong connection between India and the U.S., particularly in the areas of trade, technology, and culture.
Furthermore, Modi is scheduled to meet with CEOs from major U.S.-based companies to foster collaborations in advanced sectors such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology.
These discussions aim to strengthen the economic and technological partnership between India and the U.S., which is expected to play a key role in India's growth in these cutting-edge fields.
