Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s survival is at stake if the Gaza reoccupation plan is not pursued, as internal security sources warned that the absence of such an offensive could trigger a collapse of his government, reports said.

According to reports, an internal security assessment has warned Netanyahu that it could also hasten the corruption trial cases against him and his wife. Netanyahu has been trying every trick to avoid the ongoing corruption trial in the Israeli Supreme Court, as the prime minister has cited various reasons to evade testifying in the court.

The sources cited in the reports have said that Netanyahu is hell-bent on moving forward with the offensive “Gideon’s Chariots 2”. His two main allies, Ben Gvir and Smotrich, wanted by the International Court of Justice over committing war crimes in Gaza, have threatened to withdraw all their support from the Netanyahu government.

The Israeli government has ditched the peace plan that Hamas agreed to a week ago, which would have seen the release of ten alive hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners and a 60-day ceasefire.

The Israeli army announced Wednesday that it expects fighting to continue into 2026, with roughly 130,000 reserve soldiers to be called up and current active-duty reservists’ service extended by a month.

About 60,000 call-up orders have been issued, while 20,000 reservists already deployed will receive notices of extended service. Israel has killed nearly 62,300 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.
