Protesters in Tel Aviv demand a ceasefire and hostage release, while Hamas militants crack down on anti-government demonstrations in Gaza.

Israel and Hamas are facing mounting pressure as large-scale protests erupt in both Tel Aviv and Gaza, demanding an end to hostilities, a permanent ceasefire, and the release of hostages.

On Thursday night, thousands of Israelis took to the streets, urging the government to secure the release of captives following the circulation of an alleged Hamas video showing Israeli hostages in captivity.

Hundreds of demonstrators joined hostage Matan Zangauker’s mother, Einav, in marching to the nearby Begin Gate.

Police officers—some on horseback—attempted to prevent protesters from blocking roads, resulting in clashes that saw several demonstrators thrown to the ground. Seven were arrested.

The protests took place against the backdrop of ongoing judicial overhaul legislation and a continued deadlock in hostage negotiations.

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has vowed to force votes next week on a resolution aimed at blocking $8.8 billion in arms sales to Israel.

He cited the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, following Israel’s renewed strikes on Hamas targets and its suspension of aid deliveries.

“[Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has violated US and international law in this brutal war, and we must end our complicity in the carnage,” Sanders stated.

“No humanitarian aid has entered Gaza in more than three and a half weeks since Israeli authorities announced a complete blockade—that’s no food, water, medicine, or fuel since the start of March,” he added.

In Gaza, thousands have taken part in the largest anti-Hamas protests since the war began on October 7, demanding the group step down. However, masked Hamas militants—some armed with guns, others wielding batons—violently dispersed demonstrators.

Videos circulating on social media showed young men marching in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, chanting, "Out, out, out, Hamas out." Pro-Hamas supporters dismissed the protests, accusing demonstrators of being traitors.

The unrest in northern Gaza follows an Islamic Jihad rocket attack on Israel, which led to Israel’s decision to evacuate parts of Beit Lahia, sparking public anger.

Mediators including Egypt and Qatar—alongside several Arab nations—have hinted at the possibility of exiling Hamas from Gaza to facilitate a ceasefire and ensure the return of thousands of displaced Palestinians following Israel’s military operations.
