More Than 30 Countries Show Interest In Joining BRICS.

The recent comments by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the 16th BRICS Summit have shed light on the growing interest in the BRICS alliance. Putin revealed that over 30 countries are eager to join this influential group, which already includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group expanded earlier this year by welcoming Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

During his opening statement in Kazan, Putin emphasised the importance of acknowledging the strong desire among countries from the Global South and East to engage with BRICS.

He noted that while interest is high, it is crucial to maintain the effectiveness of the organisation as it grows. The summit gathered leaders from several countries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and others, fostering discussions on pressing global issues.

Putin highlighted that this summit is unique as it is being held in an expanded format. He stated that the Russian presidency is focused on reinforcing multilateralism, which is essential for equitable global development and security.

The aim is to enhance BRICS's authority and its role in addressing urgent global and regional challenges. Putin mentioned the importance of deepening cooperation among member states in three primary areas: politics and security, economics and finance, and cultural and humanitarian contacts.

The leaders engaged in discussions about various pressing issues, including international cooperation among BRICS nations and the resolution of regional conflicts. Putin also emphasised the need to follow up on previous decisions made during the last summit held in Johannesburg, particularly regarding deepening financial cooperation and expanding the organisation's membership.

He pointed out that BRICS is witnessing dynamic growth and an increase in its influence on global affairs. With significant political, economic, scientific, technological, and human resources, BRICS members share common values and a unified vision.

Putin described BRICS as a coalition of like-minded countries from different continents and cultures, advocating for equality, good neighbourliness, and mutual respect.

The essence of the BRICS strategy is to reflect the aspirations of a significant portion of the international community, often referred to as the global majority. This strategy is increasingly relevant as fundamental changes occur in the world and the process of establishing a multipolar world advances.

Putin's remarks underscore BRICS's potential as a counterbalance to Western dominance in global affairs, showcasing its commitment to fostering cooperation among diverse nations.
