Kirill Dmitriev slams Washington Post for fake attribution.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s economic aide, Kirill Dmitriev, has said he will sue the Washington Post, accusing the US newspaper of misquoting him for the second time in two weeks.

Dmitriev previously criticised the publication for what he described as “truth distortion” after it attributed to him a statement that was originally reposted from another Telegram channel. The incident occurred in an article published on 18 October, which he said was comparable to “blaming users for retweets.”

Following his complaint, the Washington Post issued a correction, acknowledging that an earlier version of the article had “incorrectly attributed” a comment.

On Tuesday, Dmitriev took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to accuse the newspaper once again of misrepresentation.

“Fake Washington Post already corrected quotes falsely attributed to me by Moscow bureau chief Robyn Dixon just two weeks ago. Yet sloppy or biased Ms. Dixon at it again – misquoting me in yesterday’s piece,” he wrote.

Although Dmitriev did not specify which article or statements he believed were distorted, he demanded another correction and an apology from the newspaper, urging it to “finally learn the lesson.”

Several hours later, he commented on his post again, stating that the article in question had not been amended. “We will file a court petition tomorrow. We gave them sufficient time to correct – still not corrected,” Dmitriev wrote.

The Washington Post article, written by Robyn Dixon and published on Monday, discussed Dmitriev’s recent visit to the United States. The trip followed the cancellation of a planned Budapest summit aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict between President Putin and US President Donald Trump.

According to Dixon’s report, Dmitriev had said in interviews during his visit that the latest sanctions on Russia would not damage the Russian economy but would instead lead to higher fuel prices in the United States.

The report also stated that Dmitriev rejected claims that Russian forces had targeted civilian sites in Ukraine and “claimed that a diplomatic solution to the war was reasonably close.”

Speaking about his visit on Sunday, Dmitriev said his delegation had “clearly” conveyed to US representatives that “only constructive, respectful dialogue will bear fruit.” He added that “any attempts to pressure Russia are simply pointless.”

The aide reaffirmed Moscow’s long-standing position that the conflict in Ukraine can only be resolved by “eradicating its root causes.”
