United States President-elect Donald Trump has said, that a meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin is being arranged by officials.

“He wants to meet, and we are setting it up,” Trump said before a meeting with Republican governors in his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, according to Reuters. He did not specify when the meeting would take place.

Trump who is taking charge on January 20, has criticised outgoing president Joe Biden’s unconditional aid to Kiev and during, his election, during his campaign he said, “The US has given much aid to Ukraine which makes no sense.”

He vowed to restart the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev upon assuming office.

He also called Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky the “greatest salesman on earth,” in reference to his constant requests to Western countries to provide additional military and financial assistance.

Although Trump did not reveal how he was going to stop the ongoing war between both neighbours, his team has indicated that they’re planning to freeze the conflict along with the current front line.

This means if the war is stopped during the first weeks after Trump takes charge of the White House, Ukraine will have to renounce the entire territory that Russia has occupied since 2022.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during his press conference, said that Moscow “had received no requests” for a Trump-Putin meeting. “It makes sense, of course, to wait until Trump takes office,” Peskov said.

Meanwhile, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has set a 100-day deadline to end the Ukraine conflict.

Negotiations between Kiev and Moscow broke down in the spring of 2022, with both accusing each other of making unacceptable demands.
