Qatar PM says Netanyahu wasted ceasefire mediation.

After Israeli strikes, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said his country was preparing a collective regional response to Israel to counter what he described as illegal strikes.

Al Thani said, “There is a response that will happen from the region. This response is currently under consultation and discussion with other partners in the region. Israel’s bullying has crossed all lines, and we are hoping to prepare a meaningful response that will deter Israel.”

He said Doha is hosting a Pan-Arab Islamic summit in the coming days to discuss measures against Israeli actions, which targeted senior leaders of the Palestinian group Hamas as they met to discuss a US-backed ceasefire proposal.

“We are betrayed, and I have no words to explain how enraged we are because of such irresponsible actions. This is a state of terror, carrying out acts of terror in the region,” Thani said.

He accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is facing trial in a series of corruption cases, of destroying all hopes of peace and hostage release in the Gaza Strip.

“I met and spoke with one of the hostages’ families the morning of the attack,” Thani said, adding that they had pinned their hopes on ceasefire mediation.

“I’ve been rethinking, even about the entire process for the last few weeks, that Netanyahu was just wasting our time. Netanyahu just killed any hope for those hostages… He needs to be held accountable… He’s breaking every law – he broke every international law.”

“We are trying to identify if there is anyone else missing… There are Qataris who are in a perilous situation,” he added.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 64,000 Palestinians and injured over 160,000, with tens of thousands still believed to be trapped under the rubble since 2023.
