Metsola Re-Elected Promising Unity For European Project.

Roberta Metsola has been re-elected as the President of the European Parliament, securing her position until 2027. The Maltese politician received overwhelming support in the first round of voting, achieving 562 out of 699 votes cast in a secret ballot.

Metsola has a long history in the European Parliament, having served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2013. She became First Vice-President in November 2020 and stepped in as acting President following the death of President Sassoli in January 2022.

Her leadership marks a significant moment, as she is only the third woman to hold the presidency, following Simone Veil and Nicole Fontaine.

In her acceptance speech, Metsola emphasised the need for a united Europe based on hope and shared values. She expressed her commitment to fostering a sense of belief and enthusiasm for the European project, advocating for a safer, fairer, and more equal Europe.

Her message was clear: together, Europe can be stronger and better for all its citizens.

Metsola, who is 45 years old, leads the Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) delegation within the European People’s Party Group in the Parliament. The European Parliament itself consists of 720 MEPs who are elected directly by the people.

With this re-election, Metsola is poised to continue her leadership during a crucial period for the European Union, focusing on collaboration and progress across member states.

Her vision for a united Europe will guide her agenda as she works with fellow MEPs to address the pressing issues facing the continent.
