Russia Calls Out NATO for Increased Military Presence in Asia Pacific Region.

At the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused NATO of intensifying tensions in the Asia-Pacific region through increased militarization. Zakharova's comments, made on Wednesday, highlighted Russia’s concerns about NATO's growing influence and its attempts to impose its rules globally.

Zakharova argued that countries struggling with the legacy of colonialism are now burdened by unresolved conflicts, a situation she attributes to the historical actions of colonial powers. She emphasised the need for proactive measures to prevent further escalation and conflict.

The Eastern Economic Forum, which opened on Tuesday in Vladivostok, is a Moscow-sponsored international economic event aimed at fostering economic development in Russia's Far East. This forum, which began in 2015, comes at a time of significant economic sanctions imposed on Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine.

The forum is notable for its high-profile attendees, including Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. China's Foreign Ministry has expressed hope that Han's visit will strengthen cooperation between China and Russia, particularly in the development of Northeast China and the Russian Far East.

Amid escalating tensions with the West, Russia appears eager to showcase its strong ties with China and other non-sanctioning countries. The forum is expected to attract over 40 business leaders from China, India, and other nations, reflecting Russia's strategy to bolster economic relations with countries that have not imposed sanctions on it.

The forum will continue until Friday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at a plenary session on Thursday. This event underscores Russia's efforts to enhance trade and economic partnerships despite facing international isolation and economic pressures.
