Russia is analysing the documents of peace proposal prepared by the US aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, said.
The revised 20-point proposal was brought back to Russia by President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, after the latest round of talks held last weekend.
Peskov affirmed that Moscow will continue communicating with Washington while it awaits Putin’s decision.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, too said in a video message posted on social media that his talks with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had been “positive”. The Ukrainian leader said he had had a “good conversation by telephone for nearly an hour with Witkoff and Kushner discussing the possibilities in the latest ceasefire proposal”.
“New ideas related to formats, meetings and, of course, timing on how to bring a real peace closer” had been discussed, Zelenskyy added.
While some issues still need to be worked out, he said, together, with efforts from Washington’s negotiating team, “we understand how to put all of this in place”.
Zelenskyy reiterated his intention to achieve peace through further talks with Washington to pressure Moscow to de-escalate military offensive in Ukraine as ongoing peace efforts, mediated by the US, gain cautious ground.
Meanwhile, Kremlin has remained firm on its conditions to end the war, including Ukraine’s withdrawal from the remaining parts of the Donbas regions and renouncing its intentions to join the NATO alliance.
