The Russian defence ministry has provided an update on the territorial gains in the Ukraine war this year, with a detailed map of the front line zones controlled by Russian armed forces.

As per the military, Russian forces have seized more than “4700 square kilometres of land and taken control of 205 new settlements”. The main advances have been made in Russia’s Donetsk People's Republic, where Moscow claims to have captured 3,300 square kilometres of territory.

The ministry also shared an official map of the frontline, pointing to the military’s zone control. The progress made this year. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, its forces have destroyed more than “25,000 tanks and other armoured vehicles during the conflict, over 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery pieces and other hardware.”

Though the latest estimates have excluded gains made in the Kursk region, which was liberated with the help of North Korean forces earlier this year.
